Ultraman Mebius: Armored Darkness Stage 1 (Spoilers)
2nd-Aug-2008 05:17 pm
Well, I finally, finally got to watch the Mebius Gaiden. I don't have much to say now, but I'm going to write a few (spoilers) thoughts down before I forget what I want to say...

So is this a Kanata Haruzaki show instead of Mebius? Not that I should begrudge that, though, since if I want to see plenty of Mebius, I can always go back to watch the original TV series. And, actually, I very much like Haruzaki. I was prepared to not like him on principle (well, who was he, anyway? Give me the crew I know any day), but I believe I'm charmed. He could have been Mirai 2 if done right. In fact, I think he seems to be well on the way already. (Not that I want a Mirai clone; just someone who has most of the same characteristics I adore in Mirai.)

(And please, CDjapan, Ultraman King only appears in the ED (and the preview), not in the episode itself. Talk about false advertising me selfishly expecting more accurate information...)

What exactly happened to Ryuu anyway? Was he sent to yet another dimension? He appears in front of Ultraman King (or is it the other way around?) in the preview for the next stage.

I don't know what's with my recognition skills lately. I actually thought Haruzaki was Mirai for a moment, when he was about to pick up the charm Mirai gave Ryuu. But their hairstyles seem similar to me, and the way I love, even though it doesn't seem as unique (for lack of a better word) as the ones Mirai wears during the TV series. I'm probably subconsciously thinking "Mirai 2" again.

Speaking of hairstyles, I don't know what to think of Sakomizu's. It's not as bad as I expected, but now Sako looks the same as most other people. I wouldn't be able to pick him out so quick from a crowd anymore.

The actress for Misaki seemed like she could have come straight from UltraSeven X set (or was it the other way around? I really have no idea when the gaiden was filmed). And that led me to speculate about hair in general. As far as I've seen, the Ultra series, when they do sequels or new stories, they don't attempt to keep the hairstyles of the recurring characters the same at all, even in rare occasions when they should, because sometimes an original made-for-dvd video is actually taking place during the original series.

I'm glad to see everyone back, of course, even with the new hairstyles. I actually like Teppei's a lot.

In the end, I'm going to be realistic and don't expect much on the old crew's interactions. This really does seem to focus heavily on Haruzaki, after all. But at this rate, I expect him to be set up with his own show already.

EDIT: Looking for torrent? It's in this entry (just ignore my silly comment there).

First, congrats on your torrent ending. XD

I'm sure next ep, we'll find out what exactly Haruzaki's dream was. Name symbolism must be very big in that universe. We've got a 'Daily Future' and now a 'Spring Blossoming Far Away'...

Thanks. :)

Haruzaki's dream? I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I must have missed that part somehow. ^^;; And I've never really noticed about the name symbolism either, but this I can at least blame on my lack of knowledge of the Japanese language.

After Salamandra is defeated, the conversation goes something like this:

Ryuu: By the way, how w was it? Formation Yamato.
Haruzaki: Not as hard as it was rumoured to be. Really easy.
R: _Where_'s the easy part?
H: ...But with this, my dream has been fulfilled.
R: 'Dream has been fulfilled'? Haruzaki, your...

And then Misaki calls in with the Robelger sighting report.

Thank you. I really appreciate that.

Ha ha!

But I think you're most likely correct, since Haruzaki side-stepped Ryuu's question (both questions, actually; he seems to be good at being indirect, dodging things, going off the main point... I suppose I just like this guy more and more). Also, I don't remember hearing the word 'easy' in connection to Formation Yamato anyway (re-watch of episode 17 might be in order, though).

XD The closest I can approximate that in Manglish is:

"Oh yah, very easy."
"Where got easy?!"

Jisho.org says yoyuu shakushaku (which is what he DID say) is 'calm and composed; broadminded; having enough and to spare'. So he's STILL a lying liar that lies. ;)

He didn't so much sidestep the question as it was that he got interrupted before he could answer. (Actually, Ryuu got interrupted before he could finish asking.) The way it was done came across as ---> *important plot point tee-hee!* <--- so I'm sure it's going to come up again.

The previews show he's going to use Ryuu's "Give up? I really suck at that" line again. *torn between being amused and wanting to kick the puppy dog*

Eh, I had more to say, but I have to reboot, so I'll finish it here.

Oh, yeah, if I go by the above thread, he did not really sidestep the second question (my mistake), but I still think it was timed too conveniently, almost exactly at the time Ryuu got interrupted. (Like Haruzaki isn't exactly human and has a sixth sense or something?) And even with no interruption, I think he probably wouldn't answer directly anyway and changed the subject again.

The way it was done came across as ---> *important plot point tee-hee!* <--- so I'm sure it's going to come up again.

I would be interested to hear about this important plot point (not sure if I've missed something obvious...). At this point (of not yet having any further canon material released), I'm willing to take all speculations and potential spoilers. :)

Iiiinteresting. Knowing their conversation definitely adds some depth to Kanata... or as much depth as vagueness can add. Thank you!

Just out of curiosity, where did you get the torrent from? Is it raw, or is it subbed in something?

I found the torrent here. It has Chinese subtitles.

The greedland site is pretty good. Two years ago, I used to go looking for Mebius raws (as well as a few here and there episodes of other Ultra series such as Ace and Seven) on there (and before I found other torrent sites), but hadn't been back there until recently since I don't know Chinese and guessing only got me so far (I used an online translator if I really needed the info).
