Help Japan Comm
20th-Mar-2011 02:37 am
Browsing posts on help_japan (okay, only mostly the ones called 'Offering Interesting Stuff' ^^). I'm really surprised (in a good way) at the creativity of the offers there (yeah, postcards/penpals/care packages are popular, but they are almost always from different places). And, with my writings going nowhere, a box of prompt cards (which made me think of home-made flashcards, but getting stuff other people make is usually more fun than making it myself) might come in handy.

Anyway, the main reason I write is it seems Japanese-English translation services are in demand (or maybe the limited number of offers made me think that). Was half-tempted to bid on one (the buy-it-now option), but the translators whom I thought might be interested in working on the manga I kind of want translated already have their spots filled up (well, I check the comm one week after creation, so I shouldn't be surprised...). (As for those who use the regular bid style, I'm afraid I probably won't be able to afford them.)

And almost unrelated to the above, it seems the weekly toku shows will resume airing this week. :) Though I wish they continued to take the time off for as long as they need, I'll take this (and any other sort of return to normalcy) as an indication that the situation has gotten better (and I hope I'm not wrong about this).

Things are getting better. Roads are re-opening, trains are returning to normal schedules, evacuees are returning home. The situation at the Fukushima Daiichi plant is stablizing, and power will be available to all six reactors within the next 24 hours. The cleanup will take a while and the rebuilding will be measured in years. But we're past the worst phase of it.

Thank you! I do appreciate the update since I don't really keep up with the news anymore (it shows less about Japan since other current events are taking over).

No problem! Even Japanese news is showing less about the 'quake aftermath. The exciting part of the crisis is pretty much over at this point, and it's all down to the tedious cleanup and recovery.

Wow, I really admire people who are that creative and can come up with so many good ideas and use them to help people!

Hmm, makes me want to learn Japanese, actually XD

Yeah, the news also said things are getting better, so let's hope the worst is over.

Yes, I do admire them, too.

Me too. :) Or in my case I want to learn at least to the point I feel comfortable enough to offer to translate.

Yes, let's hope that.

(Wow, I hope my next comment is more interesting. ^^;;)

Lol, well, my comment was not exactly interesting, either XDD But at least we agree on everything XDDD
